Annapolis area sailmaker

Am considering a new set of sails for our Pearson 422. Roller-furling main & genoa. Cruising.

Any recommendations from satisfied customers?

Thanks
greg

Re: Annapolis area sailmaker

I have bought quite a number of new sails from the Quantum loft in Annapolis. Primarily dealt with Tad Hutchins there but he just retired. I think you will find similar levels of quality workmanship from the Doyle and North lofts in Annapolis but customer service at Quantum has been second to none for me. They have also done service on a number of non-quantum sails for me replacing a luff tape for a new furler etc. Their reps were willing to come out sailing with me to look at shape and discuss what works well on my boat.

You will find there are others in town who will build your sails for less money, you can even get mail order sails from FX but if you are looking for top notch quality and service I would talk to Q. Another good resource is Bacons. They do new sails at very good prices if you are looking to not spend a lot.

I have no connection with Quantum Annapolis other than being a very satisfied customer.

North Annapolis made an in-mast furling sail for me. I had no issues with it... but that's a very simple sail.... not much handwork etc. no battens, little reinforcement.

If price is a factor, Rolly Tasker. They have a dealer in Annapolis now. The made my genoa last year, and I've had no issues.

Re: Annapolis area sailmaker

I bought new sails from North Sails last year. Even with their "winter rates" they were damned expensive and I'd have to say that customer service was poor. Invoices unclear or incorrect, communication was sporadic and inconsistent.

Still on the hard so haven't used them yet. sigh*

If quality and longevity are of interest, Glenn Housley at Housley Sails in Annapolis is the answers for cruisers.

Do any of these places offer cheap winter rates? I need my main repaired.

Re: Annapolis area sailmaker

They offer discounts on new sails this time of year. Bacon's is reasonable but they are closed weekends until April.

Try Sailmenders in Shady Side, MD. Lynn does a great job.
