Adjustable Genoa cars: single or double sheave?

I am adding adjustable genoa cars to my C&C36Plus with the aim of moving them under load. I sail with a 145 and 152% genoas. The track is by Lewmar and they have both single and double sheave cars. I'd appreciate any advice on which way to go. thanks.

Check Garhauer. I have had their single sheeve blocks for 5-6 years and like them. Use them for both my 135 and 150.

Thanks. Garhauer's system looks great and I checked but the cars don't fit the Lewmar track. Main thing -- the single sheave provides enough purchase to easily move the cars under load?

I would go with doubles. That's what I had on my C&C 35.

I'm not sure anything you do will make the cars "easily adjustable under load" on a 36 foot boat. But at least try to get ball bearing track slides, and be willing to tack or luff to make adjustments if the breeze is over 10 knots or so.

I have the garhauer cars with double blocks on a 42 ft with 140 Genoa and can adjust these going from 15 to 25 Kts with out luffing up, they move under load quite well. With appropriate sail set you can adjust under full load.

Re: Adjustable Genoa cars: single or double sheave?

I have just replaced my genoa cars on my 30' with Barton Marine cars. They have double width sheaves but are on simple slides with no blocks for adjustment. I am eager to try them out! I had a little trouble finding anything with 1" track. Lewmar's track is oval or elliptical in shape to allow for circulating ball bearings and that would have been nice, but their cars need to be installed on their track so I sure didn't want to go to that extreme!
And I decided against cars with sheaves for adjustment because I don't race this boat. I have raced dinghies and know the value of adjusting underway when doing that, but for cruising, nine times out of ten, all you need to do is bring the jib to a slight luff, slack off on the sheet and make your adjustment. No expensive gear needed!

Under load means double sheave. As stated even then may be a challenge.

I have garhauer single sheave and under heavy load it will adjust aft but not forward. Simple physics

Re: Adjustable Genoa cars: single or double sheave?

I installed adj cars on our taswell 43. The single sheeve allows the car to move aft, but even with the lead on a winch I can't move it fwd under load (135%). Absolutely go with doubles!

Re: Adjustable Genoa cars: single or double sheave?

I installed doubles on my Lewmar Ocean 2 cars and glad I did. I can adjust under load most times but have to leave the sheet a little slack in higher winds to adjust. That is on a 50 foot mono though. I think a singles will make it difficult and you may regret it.

Re: Adjustable Genoa cars: single or double sheave?

The genoa cars on our J/36 have triple blocks shackled to them with matching blocks with beckets forward. We get 6:1 mechanical advantage, and they move when we pull them.
