adding a becket to a block

I bought a Lewmar 40 mm Synchro Control Triple Block from Defender on closeout. Really good price, 70% off. But to rig what I need to, I need a becket on the bottom of the block to attach the line to. Is there any way to do this, I'm assuming there must be a way. I've heard some use soft attachments?

Very old technology, btw. How they used to do it back in the hippie days...

It's generally frowned on by most block manufacturers, but with a lot of blocks, you can remove (drill out) the axle pin, add a becket, & then put in a new center pin/bolt.
Though, of course, some of the feasibility of such depends upon how the block's built. As some types depend on very specific tolerances re. the axle pin, for their bearing systems... Basically, common sense applies.

You could surely take a piece of stainless strap all around the outside of the block, with proper bending and a couple holes for the blocks attachment pin and make a becket.

I've just had a look at the block you are talking about - curiosity etc.
It has a hollow centre which you can pass a bolt or rope through. This is my suggestion:-
Make up an endless loop of rope, either spliced or better still just knotted (with a double fishermans) pass one end of the loop through the centre of the block, bring the two ends together at the opposite side of the block to the shackle and join with a second shackle. There is your becket.
There are two issues that only you can resolve:-
When you load up as a becket, this loop will pinch in and try to foul the outer two sheaves. So either you make the loop long enough that it doesn't pinch enough to foul, or if you haven't enough room, you need to install a spreader just below the block so that the loop doesn't pinch in at the sides of the block.
The other issue is that this loads up the centre structure of the block in a way it was never designed for. If it looks wrong then use the thickest bolt that will go through the centre and hook the loop over the ends of this bolt that you have left sticking out at each side of the block. This solves the possibility of over stressing the block structure but you still have to worry about it pinching the sheaves. Don't tighten the bolt up onto the block but use lock nuts. Fit washers at each side, both sides of the loop and seize the ends of the loop so it doesn't come off.
If you really wanted a more elegant bodge, then you could make up a stainless bracket in the place of the rope loop.
