How long is a piece of string? Scoobert, you should know that this question is unanswerable.

Why don't you measure it? Just dump jerry cans of water into it until it's full (keeping count, of course).

Re: what size holding tank do i have?

look this is easy.

get a container (any will do but the bigger the better) that you know the volume of. A five gallon can, or a 10 gallon can etc...

Get the hose flowing at full chat, get a stop watch.

Pop the hose in the container and at the same time start the stop watch. Stop it when full.

You know know how long it takes your hose to fill 5 or 10 gallons.

Now empty your holding tank and armed with your stop watch time how long it takes to fill at full chat.

You now have two times one for a known volume and one for an un-known volume.

Divide the un-known by the known and then times by the volume of the known container et voila.

ie 10 gallon container takes 60 seconds to fill and your holding tank takes 33 minutes to fill. 33 minutes is 1980 seconds.

1980 seconds divided by 60 is 33.

33 x 10 gallons is 330 gallon tank

Now there's a good idea. Just get away from the harbor when you "empty your holding tank."

PS - as you already know it takes 55 mins to fill from empty to full you are half way there. Just find that 10 gallon drum and you are sorted

Is it rectangular? What are the dimensions of the tank?

Re: what size holding tank do i have?

I don't know about anyone else but that is a really strange size for a holding tank! Most of them at least on the boats that I have been on or seen don't go much over 40-60 gal. On a long distance cruising boat...a huge tank is almost always for water or fuel. No one holds that much weight in waste. Why would they?
Are you sure that it is the holding tank and is it possible that the PO had more than one water tank and no holding tank so the just piped waste to one of the water tanks, so they could be legal inland? Was the boat ever on a lake?

Re: what size holding tank do i have?

I sure hope you know what you are filling. I have never heard of a boat your size having anything over 60 gallons of waste. 250 gallons @8.3 lbs (water weight of a gallon) would be over 2,000 lbs of waste. Why would anyone ever carry that much weight/waste??????? Coastal it can be pumped as needed. Making crossings it is just pumped over board.

Re: what size holding tank do i have?

Could not find anything on google about Tayana tank size, so looked at YW. The largest holding tank on the Tayana's there is 40 gallons, and some as small as 20 in your size range. Unless your previous owner had a real need to carry %^&*, you are filling something with water that I can only hope is a water tank.
