Well, they don't pump with their blades. If you've ever had to service one ( ), you will know that besides blades, they have impellers, much like our engines' raw water cooling pump impellers. The impeller is what pumps, not the blade. The Jabsco ones are rated to self-prime and pump uphill to 1.2 metres.

Quite right--but the pumps are designed to push not pull. The blades alone do not do all the job--life would be simpler if they did.

And yes--I have pulled apart and reconditioned one or two of them. They do push out quite an impressive amount of pressure--as they are designed to do.

This has the potential to be a mess....
Thanks.

Re: Will a jabsco macerator lift?

You might want to consider reading the owners manual for the Jabsco macerator pump. It's designed to empty a holding tank, not a toilet bowl...although there are a few people (you included apparently) who've been know to jury-rig a macerator pump to replace a manual toilet pump instead of replacing it with a proper macerating electric toilet...and without much of an understanding of how it actually works. The actual macerator is just a chopper blade, akin to the blade in a blender. It's actually the impeller that pulls waste from the tank and pushes it to the thru-hull.

And if you do read the owners manual Jabsco Macerator Pump owner manual, you'll learn that it CAN lift tank contents up to 5'.

...but the pumps are designed to push not pull.

If that were true, how could a macerator pump installed at or above the top of the tank--as many are--pull the waste out of the tank?

You can suck on the discharge line to prime it.

Will a jabsco macerator lift?

Actually all pumps create pressure better than a vacuum, it’s just physics.
Almost any pump can easily create more than 15 PSI, but even a super vacuum pump can only suck a little less than 15 PSI, cause that is a pure vacuum.
We really should have our fuel filters on the pressure side of the pump, but doing so may be a safety hazard as a leak would spray fuel as opposed to just sucking air.
Most land vehicles have the fuel filter after the pump.

So far as sucking on the hose, can I watch?
