Whynter or Engel or ... ?

Have had an Engel frig/freezer on board for 8 years…. its whisper quit and power efficient in both 12v and 120. During the off season she becomes our beverage cooler. One drawback is the exposed thermostat. It got bumped into freeze once and wrecked a lot of refrigerated food. Solved the problem with a low cost temperature alarm. Thinking about getting another small unit just for ice. Cheers Mike

We have replaced a 5 year old edgestar with a new Engle 40 we were offered a great deal.
The latches are flimsy and very weak. The sealing gasket design is terrible. It allows a lot of frost buildup and does not seal well. The plus is it only uses a little over 2 amps while running but It runs 15 minutes 15 off. Our edgestar would run a little longer but be off for an Hour plus. Our friends has already failed at 1.5 years old under warranty which doesn't help if out of country. Also the new design is impossible for an owner to work on. Where on our edgestar and our older waeco I could access everything for repairs or testing.
