Where is A/C raw water strainer on Beneteau 461.

Hi All,
Hubby and I just acquired a beautiful 2000 Bene 461 and are going over it and all the systems. However, we can't find the air conditioner raw water strainers, after taking everything apart. Any advice where to look? Thanks for the help!

It could be anywhere depending on who installed the a/c. Typically though it's somewhere around the packing gland.

Where is your compressor located? Can you trace the hose or pipe back from there? I have seen some very unlikely places for them! Just in October we were trying to find the raw water seacock for the head on a Beneteau 45, and did not manage to do it. It's in there somewhere...

Barbara, The Gulf water temp isn't too cold yet and you could dive on your boat and generally locate them so you could locate them on the inside. Did this come up during your survey??

Additionally, I live in the Tampa / St. Pete area and I could help you guys out.. PM me.

I would not run the a/c without tracing it down unless you can locate the outflow and verify.

The stranger on my 461 is under the stairs near the starting battery. Run the air conditioner and listen for the sound of the pump running. You might have to remove the starting battery to see it. Good luck

We're also in FL. I keep my two units at 80-84 when we're not on the boat. I clean my A/C strainer weekly. You need to find and clean your strainer pronto IMHO. Rich

On the Beneteau 473 the factory installed A/C strainer is under the starboard aft cabin floorboard...... Not easy to access and unfortunately the intake seems to be a magnet for Seagrass and other debris.

Thanks all for the advice - we found it under the house battery bank. All clear now! Getting ready for the Conch Republic Cup in January from Key West to Cuba.

Correction - it was under the stairs and the starting battery.
