What water pump?
I live aboard my powerboat 9 months of the year on the upper Mississippi. I always use water from the onboard tanks, I think this keeps it fresh and problem free when cruising. I’am thinking about replacing the pump because of how it surges with pressure and volume. I did add a filter after the pump and 1qt pressure tank to the system after this problem arose, this helps but not enough for my satisfaction. Washing dishes is when it’s most noticeable while rinsing at anything less than full flow it will slow almost to a trickle till the pump kicks on. I would really appreciate suggestions for a replacement that would give a steady flow no matter the setting of the valve. Longevity is also a requirement, I don’t want to replace it with something that hasn’t got a long service life. This problem started a couple years ago when the original pump quit, I replaced with the onboard spare that is the same brand Shur Flo Thank you

Re: What water pump?
I have a Shurflo on-demand pump. It’s six years old, gets used daily, and has been great. Water flow at any setting is perfectly consistent.

Re: What water pump?
You need to install an accumulator and possibly upgrade your pump.

Re: What water pump?
He does have an accumulator, but he calls it a pressure tank.

Re: What water pump?
This "pressure tank" could be set wrong.

Re: What water pump?
Seriously consider a Marco pump. They do not need accumulators ("pressure tanks"). They are physically small, and quite robust.
I have used all of the brands of multi-port diaphragm pumps, (Shurflo, Jabsco, etc.) and I consider all of them disposable. If you need one to work, buy two so you always have a spare.
Of course they are a bit more expensive. But you get what you pay for.

Do you happen to know the model and gpm? The original shurflo worked great but gave up 5 years after buying the boat. The replacement looked identical but performance is way different.

USA Distributer: https://www.mate-usa.com/en/product_category/pumps That website is not a full description of their product line, just the smallest one.

Re: What water pump?
You might need a bit more pressure in the pressure tank.

Re: What water pump?
If you want something that will last buy a Marco pump, and you will not need an accumulator tank. I have had all the rest of the plastic junk, surflo, jabs, whale, and none of them last for everyday usage. The Marco is more money but it will last.

Re: What water pump?
Use a bicycle pump with a pressure gauge and re-pressurize your accumulator tank, it should be about 35 psi.

I've pretty much decided that a Marco will be the replacement. I just have to decide on model, not sure on gpm I would need.
