Webasto heater fumes/smoke

I bought a new boat and the heating system is a webasto 2000i I believe. First run with it the entire cab of the boat was filled with smoke. So I took apart the exhaust and the insulation seemed to have an awful smell of diesel. replaced that and tried to re fit the exaust duct and it seems to still be putting off a bad odor or fumes. Anyone got any ideas? It's firing up blowing hot air and not smoking anymore just seems like it's still giving off bad fumes

I'm trying to find a new exhaust duct for it as well incase there's a pinhole leak in it

Have you cleaned the ducting after the smoke incident? Perhaps it is just a lingering smell of the exhaust gas and smoke that you are smelling. Also if the exhaust lagging/insulation was saturated with diesel how well did you clean the exhaust pipe and the area around the heater that may have been contaminated with diesel fuel.

Personally I would take the unit in for service or service it yourself. It obviously has a serious problem if the exhaust lagging/insulation was saturated with diesel fuel.

I've worked on a few models of diesel/air heaters and yes it does sound like you have a leak in the combustion chamber or exhaust. If you can find the leak and have a really good welder repair it, it may be easier than finding a new one. One way to find the leak is to use duck tape to seal up the holes add a air inlet, put a few psi (<10) to it and submerge it, bubbles will let you know where leak is.
When i say good welder I mean pro with lots of stainless experience.

Well it's hard to say if it was diesel fuel it just had a terrible smell to it and when the exhaust would get hot it would have a bit of smoke come out of the insulation. I found this stuff that's made for exhaust that has a fiberglass insulation interior and a rubber exterior seems to work well but still getting a smell/fumes. That what I was wondering if it just needs taken apart and cleaned or if it's a igniter issue or what

It's got heater combustion seals leaking, have it professionally serviced and rebuilt if nessessary.
CO, fumes which kill are not visible, and cannot be smelled.
