Watermakers

Hi. We are needing to replace our watermaker as it is 10 years old and the main pump needs rebuilding. Not sure if it is worth doing. We have just replaced the vane pump and the membrane without improvement and don't want to spend more on it.
There are so many watermakers out there. Any advice on new watermakers that are not too expensive. We run on 110 v. Have a generater, would like one that makes about 150 litres an hour.
Thanks
Ozychris

Re: Watermakers

Hi Ozychris

Having helped lots of cruisers rebuild water makers, there always becomes a point where the rebuild dollars gets close enough to the "buy new" dollars to justify the new route. The hard part is is that sometimes you don't know that exactly until you have already spent some rebuild dollars.

There are a few bad apples in the water maker industry, but doing a simple Google search of their company name can easily rule them out as a safe/reputable vendor and will save you lots of potential drama. I have my "list of them" but as a water maker company owner myself, it's bad etiquette for me to name them.

A good starting point on some water maker basics is to watch the videos on our YouTube page:
https://www.youtube.com/user/CruiseROWater

Another good thing to check out is a copy of our water maker manual, so here is a link to download our most popular selling water maker, the SM30, which makes 30GPH.

We have the motor available in 60hz and 50hz, if that is the power frequency of your generator and we ship 3-4 unit to Aus and NZ per month using DHL.

I am currently at the Strictly Sail Boat Show working the booth, but if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.
