watermakers

I am looking to buy a watermaker, and I haven't been able to find anything here on the subject. I would like to ask what 12 volt watermaker is the best for the money? Maybe around a 150 gallon per day unit.
Thanks

I very satisfied with my Village Marine Tech LW 160. Reasonably priced, bare bones, simple system.

I am in the process of building a watermaker. Who out there has already done this? I am looking at using a Cat pump but not sure of what motor to connect to it. Suggestions please?

We have been cruising now for more than five years and have a SHENKER watermaker that produces 60ltr an hour and runs off 12volt . It uses around 10-12amp when in use, so end up having the generator on anyway! It has been very reliable, and used it everyday for a year last year without a problem. and all other years we use it everyday for around 6-7months. The nice thing about it is that it is driven via two pumps and if one were to fail it will still work but only produce half the water.

Self Steering - Hydrovane Selfsteer are doing a line of watermakers - the only other product they sell is self steering - I have no experience of watermakers but swear by their other product . . if the watermakers are half as good. . . .

Before you buy or build a watermaker, check out this tutorial: PowerPoint Presentation It compares the old style power-hungry type that uses an ordinary high pressure water pump to the newer style, energy-efficient type that uses a power recovery system. Yes, the newer style is more expensive, but then so is energy.
