Watermaker Supply Hose

I have some Trident braided black rubber hose that I'd like to use to supply my watermaker filters and pump, before the membranes in the low pressure side. Do you foresee any problems with using black rubber? Taste? Contamination?
Thanks!

Taste can possibly be a factor in rubberized hoses especially when they sit unused for a while. Is there any reason you're not just using standard good quality clear braided hose on the input side?

Because it's below the waterline and I have yet to see (probably exists but I haven't found it yet) any drinking water hose that doesn't say that it's safe for below the waterline. I run an activated charcoal filter after the tanks, forgot to mention that, prolly filter out the taste.

I've never seen one that said it wasn't safe below waterline.

This type of braided hose is used below the waterline all the time on all kinds of boat plumbing systems. As would be true for any tubing, protection from chafing and proper support is imperative.

Re: Watermaker Supply Hose

Our watermaker feed hose is black reinforced rubber Trident 100 series and we have experienced no problem or taste issues for the past 5 years it has been installed.

I agree with you about questioning clear vinyl braided hose below the waterline. There are different grades and thicknesses of this hose and I would only trust the higher grade, thicker hose below the waterline. The stuff sold in West Marine and most other chandleries is the lower quality, thinner stuff. I have experienced scary issues with this below the waterline.

The Trident stuff is top-notch for below waterline use and is all I use now after some failures of clear braided vinyl.
