Water maker mounting trimaran ama/float

Hi there
I have a Katadyn 80E that I am putting into a 33ft tri. I was thinking of mounting it in one of the floats/amas to reduce the noise (while its operating) in the main hull.
Can anyone see any problems with this?
Thanks for your time
Gene

Re: Water maker mounting trimaran ama/float

How much access to it will you have when sailing along in rough weather. You need to be able to access filters and flush it through. Will opening a hatch risk compromising the water integrity of the ama?

Why not mount it in the main hull and use it when you are awake and sailing.

Re: Water maker mounting trimaran ama/float

Also Trimarans can have their own issues with watermakers when they are installed in the ama. Because of the speed of trimarans and the tendency to lift while sailing, a lot more air is introduced into the watermaker system via the thru hull than other boats making it tougher to make water underway. If your plans are to only make water while at anchor there should be no problem. I agree with PETE7 the best place to install it is in the main hull with a deep as possible thru hull.

I think one you lose displacement in the ama, two you have to lead power and hoses to and from the ama. Desirable? Worth it?
