Washers and Dryers - Oh Boy !

I was figuring on having a few weeks worth of clothes and when I come in to do my 2 or 3 weekly shop, doing the washing at a laundromat attached to every marina I have visited (in OZ)

When up in Asia, it is cheap enough to give them to a laundry service.

Is anyone using a propane dryer out there? I'm curious how much propane they burn.

We are using an LG combo, no vent, 110Volt. Have the same on land. They dry by precipitating the moiste air in a chamber which has cool water flushing over its surface - similar to the way an iced drink collects moisture. Drying a load of bath towels takes four hours. Big deal. Load is only gently heated. The elec. use is small, so is the water use. LG has the figures everywhere on the net. Don't know how to post links here yet. By the way, front loading combo units are way easy on clothes. most of the time we don't dry stuff like shirts, levis, shorts, etc. we have a clothes rod over the dryer and an opening window nearby. Wind does a good job of drying the clothes, which come out mostly dry anyway. Mostly wrinkle free too.

We have just bought one of those for the house, but on water? I know it takes 4 hours to dry anything, but used heaps of water too to wash and 30 litres to dry! and 4 hours power...
I spose its fine when you are at a marina.

Did you notice the instruction book says not to use in a marine environment. Have you had any trouble? I could only guess its because of sability switching off on the 1400 rpm spin.

Cost me AU$1,000 = US$900 which is cheap compared to a marine unit.

Mark, are talking about an LG Combo? $900 is way cheap for an LG. One in the boat cost 1250 USD and the one at home $1400.
You should check out water use on a standard, top loading washer. And elec. dryer costs. 8 gals of water is a lite way to dry. The elec. is low too. Though it requires a sizeable system (in marine terms) for both, which, luckily, we have. Batt. bank is 1200 amp hrs. 350 gallons Fresh water and water maker (our pumped ballasting system). We don't run it in heavy seas. Mild seas 2-3 ft. it does fine.

The model # you quoted is not available in the US that I've been able to find. That model number always takes me to australia. Perhaps you get a $300 knock down because of reduced shipping.

I was going to purchase a Haier, 110v, ventless, washer/dryer combo unit, but oddly enough Wal-mart online discontinued them the day I was going to order one. (I'm wondering if that was a message not to order their brand).

I did e-mail Haier America and they e-mailed me back saying any of their combo units would work well on a boat as long as it wasn't in use while underway. (Note, a washer/dryer has to be kept level when in use).

we have a uk speck bosh washing unit front loading and dry stuff in the winter by puting the cloths hung up in the heads with a dehumidifier, close the door and it drys over night.
but otherwise its god old fresh air

I have never run into any one, on a sailboat, that was happy with the dryer part of washer/dryer combo. They have ALL said it was close to worthless.

You might have a look at LG. We have one on land which has been working well for 6 years, though we are gone a lot. I found some 1150 ish prices on the net.
