Backflow is still going to be a problem regardless of drain size if the cockpit height is marginal or the drains are in the wrong place. A check valve or something might work, but at the end of the day either fix the issue or close the valves in good weather and open them if you think a wave is going to come into the cockpit or during rain. Fit a small bilge pump to deal with spray and rain...
