Second Fridge - as Freezer

Boat has a good fridge - 100L I guess - Danfoss compressor - very happy with it.
Thinking of a small camping fridge/freezer for the locker for frozen meats and long term storage etc.
Solar+generator+battery bank can handle the load.
Anyone using this sort of setup?
Are there better options for getting a small (30L) freezer on board?

We have a small Engel fridge/freezer...all I can say about it is we've been using it during our refit for over 4 years....abused the hell out of it, and it still works like a champ.

Sure, but with the Danfoss you can't add another plate so I would guess you would have to add another system. Regarding power, we have a holding plate system and when on the hook run the generator daily for 2 hours to top up the battery banks and pull down the cold plates. The fridge and freezer are pretty good size, the aft freezer has 2 cold plates and will hold at 20 degree pretty easily. We have a forward freezer but don't tend to use it unless we have a big crew aboard.

we have a separate fridge and freezer, each with an independent compressor. I prefer such a system to the spill-over type of system we had on the last boat. If we anchor out for extended times during the summer we usually end up turning the freezer off after we've BBQed all the steaks. Once the freezer goes empty I go into what is called "serious fishing mode." But it's nice that the other fridge system can keep going once the freezer is no longer needed.

I agree on the Engel as well. Haven't used one so its just a opinion.. but it is something I plan on getting soon. Will use it for a freezer, but know that it can be adjustable either way.
The combi unit looks good too.
I like that it will use either 12v or 110. And while heavy it is portable.

I have a Engel 43 gt. fridge/freezer runs on a/c or dc and like stated above it will freeze rock hard and very little energy.
