Seacock valve

I have a Marlon 1-1/2in valve that is verry difficult to turn. The valve has been removed cleaned and greased as recommended by Forespar. All to no avail. The valve is just as stiff.
The setup is thus; thru hull, Marion valve screwed on (about 1/4in space to the hull not bolted) then a 90deg elbow and then to a manual holding tank pump.
I would like to change the valve to something less stiff.
A new maroon valve at $140 is almost as stiff.
I looked at a standard schedule 40 pluming valve at $15 that turns much easier. This valve also has a nut on it which enables you to adjust the tension on the ball.
The new setup would be; thru hull 90deg elbow plumbing valve fastened to the hull then to the pump.

Is there any sound reason for not using the plumbing valve?

Re: Seacock valve

A PVC valve is probably not fiber reinforced like Marelon so would not pass muster from a surveyor. If were to drop something on it and it cracked that would be a bad day.

Re: Seacock valve

I busted my Marelon seacock. The handle snapped off. I recently changed it out. Not as good as bronze IMO.
