Question Scott Rapid-Dissolve Toilet Paper

Just wondering if anyone's tried this yet. Seems pretty cheap ($4/pack) and you can buy it in bulk. I'm ordering a case so I'll give it a try. Hoping some of you guys have had some success with it.

You wanna pay HOW MUCH?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????

We just bought 36 rolls for $5 (in Turkey, granted)

We use it to wipe benches too.

Rapid disolve would prolly jus mean its thinner...

We just buy the cheapie thats 2 ply. Some of the expensive or 1 ply, or 3 ply stuff really clogs the dunny....

LOVE the stuff - in the boat and the RV. WalMart used to carry it here locally but for some reason no longer does. We scarf up as much as we can each time we find it on the shelves.

We use Scott's 1 ply that is sold at walmart and sams. We get it as cheap as we can and in bulk at Sam's, and it has never clogged our heads or mascerator.

That fancy stuff is shown as $0.87 per roll. I buy the plain jane Scott for $0.30 or less per roll. If you buy whatever is the currently cheapest you will get "rapid-dissolving" toilet paper.

Special tp is unnecessary. Buy cheap single ply.

Re: Scott Rapid Disolve Toilet Paper

I just plain do not like the rapid dissolve paper! We probably tried about all the paper options out there. We have used trusty old Charmin 2 ply without any problems for years now. It works well for us.

But I do chuckle whenever I pick up one of the so called marine toilet paper rolls. They are wrapped soooo loose. Just another way of short changing the consumer.

Re: Scott Rapid Disolve Toilet Paper

Why would you have to order toilet paper from Amazon (or anywhere else)? And pay shipping charges for it???

Go to your local grocery store, Sam's, Costco or wherever and buy the cheapest no-name or ANY-name made-from-recycled stuff they sell. Never mind the brand name...just go for cheap and flimsy.

If you question whether it's ok to use aboard, tear off a sheet and put it in a glass of water...come back in a couple of hours and stir the water. If the water is milky and all you see is snow, it's the same stuff that Thetford and SeaLand are selling as "marine/rv," but for a fraction of the price. But if the sheet is still intact, or mostly intact, try another brand.

Re: Scott Rapid-Dissolve Toilet Paper

Practical Sailor magazines June issue had a test of several toilet papers for use on boats. They liked Scotts Rapid Disolve best.

Maybe, but in actual use for more than a decade the cheapest brands work just fine wiping my butt which is geographically very close to where I keep my wallet. They both seem quite happy with the cheap stuff.

- - Side note: for visitors and newbies on my boat I give them the "3 times 3 equals 10" rule. That is, you can use 3 squares of TP, 3 times to wipe then you have to pump 10 strokes on the toilet pump handle.

My understanding is that the quick dissolve uses a different reinforcing fibre?

If I paid that much for TP, I'd either have to give up pooping or wiping. Just buy the cheapest you can find. Not to mention trying to get it through customs with a straight face. For that price I'd rather use aluminum foil.

Re: Scott Rapid-Dissolve Toilet Paper

In the Practical Sailor test Scott Rapid Disolve was the cheapest brand they tested. As I recall, their test was along the lines of the test recommended by Peggy Hall. When it comes to poop, Peggy really knows her ....

Re: Scott Rapid-Dissolve Toilet Paper

You also have to look at who they included in their tests...the "marine/rv" brands, a couple of "premium" brands...and the Scotts. Not a single "no name" or house brand.

They don't mention sheet count in their comparison of the WM roll size vs the Coleman roll...so we don't know whether the WM has more sheets or simply isn't rolled as tightly...and they apparently don't know how a VacuFlush actually works either (it does NOT suck waste into the tank and it does actually NEED about the same amount of water as any other toilet)...but that' s a topic for another thread.
