Removing Leaking Calorifier in Beneteau 473

The hot water tank/calorifier on our Beneteau 473 looks very difficult to remove but as it is leaking, we have to! Thinking of trying to cut it into pieces and buying a smaller one as a replacement.

Has anyone had to get theirs out of the port stern cabin before? How did putting in the new one go? Any tips welcome and thanks in advance.

For any 473 owners interested, we had to cut the divider between the 2 stern cabins and move another section of wood to get the old tank out. Photos and info. on our website.

Hi again Rhian
A query about the HWS: mine heats up OK off shore power but not off the engine heat exchanger. Any idea why?
Thanks
Nazariah.

Re: Removing Leaking Calorifier in Beneteau 473

The water heater on my 2002 B473 is an Attwood, 12 inch square cube. I had no issues taking it out through the port cabin door.

I had to relocate the water heater when I installed a Northern Lights 5 kw genset center line in the port rear cabin. Lowered it through the starboard lazerette and slide it through a hole we cut in the bulkhead. Very pleased and there is still plenty of room in the cabin.

My intent was to move the water water into the port rear lazerette however the opening is only 13.5 inches wide so I bought a long narrow heater that just fit. It is made by Torrid and is a thermos bottle design so it should be more efficient.
