Regulating Hot Water Temperature

I have Perkins 4-108. My water heater is located above the engine and works very well. The problem is that the water is too hot. My engine runs at 175 to 180 degrees and so does my hot water which is way too hot. Is there a simple setup I can install to regulate the hot water closer to 130 degrees? I would think a temperature bypass valve would work but I don't know where to find one.

What you are looking for is very common in household plumbing systems. In the US it's called a "tempering valve" and it mixes cold water in with the outlet of your hot water heater to avoid just the situation you describe. A plumbing supply place ought to be able to help you.

Here's a sample: Tempering Valves - PlumberSurplus.com

Figuring out how to adapt them to your marine plumbing system is your problem!

Many of the new marine hot water heaters now come already set up with these vales. Head over to a supply store that has one and see how they are connected.

Use a valve for made for domestic water that mixes cold and hot as it leaves the tank (as opposed to controlling the engine water). Here is an example of one:

Watts*0206003*-* $89.95 - Watts - 1/2" MMV-UT M1, Threaded Mixing Valve - 0206003

Thanks Guys, It never occured to me to regulate after the tank, I was set on the idea of lowering the tank temperature. Your ideas are a much easier approach.
