Recommendations for building spill over freezer/reeder box?

It's 272 SF which is 8 layers of aerogel which is 3.2 inches. So a little over R-30. It also doesn't account t for the fact that each successive layer of insulation will require less SF.

If I run a little short 7 layers (2.8") of aerogel still provides just under R-30.

You can always make up for that loss of a few btu by insulating the end where you are taking out the electrics to 9 inches of polyiso . Also you could put an inch on the bottom before you lay in your Aerogel . Looks like you have given this some good thought . Nice job . Are you doing this all in the south pacific? As your stats indicate ?
Regards John

Thanks John. I was in the South Pacific on the last boat. This is a new to me boat that I bought a few months ago in Panama. I'm currently anchored in Charleston, SC.

I thought it might have been tough to get Aerogel in the South Pacific . What kind of boat are you on now ? Looks like a cat .

Yes/yes/outside.

If I end the box where the tape comes across, would the compressor fit in this area? It has a large wicker door, so it would have plenty of ventilation. (The wiring and electrical panel are getting moved to a different part of the boat)

Looks like you have plenty of room there for the condensing unit . Hey make sure to tidy up those wires LOL

I can make the line set to match whatever you need . As well as what side of the box it comes in at .

Regards John.

This is the space I have my 0F freezer condensing unit in . Never even gets warm in there . I will put a passive vent on top when the weather gets warmer .

Regards John

Baby steps! It took a lot longer moving the electrical panel then I expected! In the process of moving the panel, I discovered all sorts of old unused wires, undersized wiring, etc. Like every intended boat project it's spawned a few new projects

I have the chases made for the wiring and plumbing that will pass behind the box. Next I will use the current space as a female mold to construct the outer liner.

Re: Recommendations for building spill over freezer/reeder box?

Looks great ! Good job Mike.

When doing this kind of job you really have to look at your intended use for the boat. Weekend warrior , not to worry to much . Off shore world cruising , do the job right , do the job once !

Keep us posted

Regards John
