Raritan Electroscan sewage treatment

Just bought an Electroscan EST12 complete with 16 page Instalation and Maintenance booklet. Only thing missing is operating instructions. The booklet refers to “owner’s manual page (discontinued product) at: www.raritan.com”. This website only has an electronic copy of the same 16 page booklet. Apparently the owner’s manual is the discontinued product.

My head is a manually operated Jabsco.

Can anyone provide specific advice on operating procedures when used with a manual toilet?

Many thanks.

Re: Raritan Electroscan sewage treatment

The 16 page booklet IS the owners manual and I suggest you become very familiar with all of it...starting with the instructions for using ElectroScan with a manual toilet on page 2:

"Independent Button operation -Used with manual flush toilets or if electric toilet is being activated separately from electro scan. "Start/Stop" button must be pressed before toilet is flushed. Flush toilet as often as necessary until system status green light begins to blink. Flush must not exceed 1.5 gallons."

The start/stop button is on the Control Unit, which obviously means it should be in the head.

It's very important that you follow the wiring and plumbing installation instructions exactly. So if you need additional help to to install and/or operate the ES, Raritan tech support is very knowledgeable and very helpful. 800-352-5630 x 6.

Re: Raritan Electroscan sewage treatment

Thanks Peggie,
I see that now. I find some of their instructions pretty subtle. My understanding now is:
1. Use the head.
2. Turn on the system by the start/stop button.
3. Flush the head manually but not exceeding 1.5 U.S. gallons.
4. Green light should begin blinking.

I understand that flushing the head discharges treated sewage from the previous use and that after the current flush has been treated the system will shut off and no lights will be showing on the System Status panel. Ideally I shouldn’t see the red light on this panel.

Is the above understanding correct?
Cheers,
Gary

That's correct.

Each flush gets treated twice, as there are two compartments.

Peggie
I always wonder how do you know when you pump 1.5 gallons? I have aRaritan Super flush with an electro scan. What is the volume per pump?

Everything you need to know about it is covered in the Installation, Operation and Maintenance Guide, aka owners manual. If you follow all the instructions in it, the ES will give you at least a couple of decades of reliable trouble-free service...iow, read the instructions BEFORE all else fails! (Same is true of the PuraSan, btw). If you don't have the owners manual, you can download one from here: ElectroScan owners manual And while Raritan tech support is your best source to help you sort out anything you don't understand, I'm always glad to help too.
