We have been using our
deck for
water collection for decades. it has worked very well. Many times the squalls that bring the rain also bring the
wind. Using an awning maybe effected by this breeze. But the
water is rarely blown off the
deck.
Our deck fill is aft close to the toe rail. Like Ann mentioned we use a towel and just create a curve to direct the water into the fill. The 4 drain holes in the toe rail are plugged with small pieces of tee shirt we cut up and stow under the
dodger when not in use. We always give the deck and
cabin top a scrub first to get all the dirt and
salt off the deck. Once rinsed off divert the water down the fill hole. 70 gallons of water in 14 minutes is our
record. Our vent lines are run above deck level in the
head. So when the
tanks are full the manual foot
pump spigot in the
galley starts to flow. We then know the
tanks are full!
Good Luck with your catchment system
