Propane Installation - Positioning of Tanks

i wanna lay my propane tanks on their side -- i have the regular 20 pound size aluminum tank. can these be laid on their side and still be effective? is there a problem with fluid level and regulator?? is there a problem with fluid coming thru regulator?

Re: challenge--propane installation--positioning of tanks

Page two of this thread; had the same questions myself. In short, propane is a great destroyer of rubber in is liquid form and horizontal tanks are designed to handle that before being delivered to anything that can be be harmed by the fluid.

I believe you want the gas off the top, not the liquid from the side or the bottom in the supply line. That could be a factor. I don't know for sure.

Re: challenge--propane installation--positioning of tanks

Horizontal (usually "ASME") and Vertical (usually "DOT") propane tanks are not interchangeable, and must be stored, filled, and used only in the specified horizontal or vertical mounting position.

gord--death is the final stage of life, as some would say-- or 10 out of 10 of us die-- we just dont have to do it with a loud BOOM..or tomorrow...i found the tanks for my boat at downwind, and will get later. they make em a lot nicer now than they did when they made my dodge van with the horizontal propane tank mounted under the chassis.....same year my boat was made....

Re: Propane Installation - Positioning of Tanks

They do make horizontal DOT certified tanks. Don't know who makes them, but my motor home has 2 of them factory installed.
One is too big for boats use i.e. 100 gallons. The other is a 10 gallon horizontal that is ised for the BBQ.
I'll try to find out what brand they are. They atr top valved just like the big horizontal tanks used at homes.
