Propane Gas Plumbing

My rather old propane gas installation is in need of 2 new hoses and fitting to connect to my tank. They are not long... perhaps 18" each max and it one connects to a a hose barb fitting and then to the regulator... the other from the regulator to the tank with a gas pipe fitting.

Are these fittings available at Home Depot along with the hose? The existing one seem to have some sort of swage which perhaps enables the nut to rotate when tightening without the hose rotating.... (makes sense).

Anyone have advice on making up these hoses?

Either buy them ready made or have a shop make them for you. Try a place that specializes in propane grills, stoves, etc.

Re: Propane Gas Plumbing

Even though a hose barb fitting might be fine for a while, it's poor practice to use them with propane.

Re: Propane Gas Plumbing

Just installed all new lines in my propane system. Checked my local Home Depot and Lowes and their hoses were 99% for grills and BBQs. Totally different fittings.

Your system probably using flare fittings or NPT fittings. Try a camper/RV store. Setting up portable propane tanks to a stove is right up their alley.

FYI flare fittings tighten to seal. NPT you should use gas compatible thread compound or yellow Teflon tape.
