Plumbing Maintainance While Long-Term Mooring ?

Hi

I have this in the engine forum as well but thought I would place it here as well because of the plumbing connection.

"My partner and I have purchased our first yacht and it will be lying at its mooring until we can pick it up.

1) How often will the motor need to be started in our absence?
2) Will the heads need flushing regularly?
3) Are there other general maintenance to consider for a boat lying for a length of time?"

Thanks Alex

Since this is the plumbing section - so long as the through hulls/seacocks are closed on the heads, there is nothing you need to do. When you recommission the heads a little veg oil will help lubricate the piston pumps.
- - The water tanks should be empty and preferably sucked dry by a wet-vac attached to a vinyl hose that you feed down the dipstick or another access to the tank.
