They recommend lubricating the cylinder bore with vaseline.

That is great stuff-same as my instructions.

It is still far easier to simply drop a little OLIVE OIL and flush rather than take everything apart.

So, on your planet, instructions to directly lubricate the cylinder bore (requiring removing the plunger) with a thick grease is the same as instructions to NOT directly lubricate the cylinder bore and to indirectly use olive oil and not a thick grease?

When I said that the instructions were the same, I meant the same as my manuel of instructions was the same.

However for your enlightenment: It IS easier to follow my instructions re freeing a stiff plunger. Rather that snyping all the time. Just have a go at my system and then you will see how very SIMPLE it is and so very easy to do once a week.

I do hope that this will at last clarify it all for you.

Now boys play nice. If Peter wants to pour salad dressing in his toilet once a week that's his business. A lot of people do it and it doesn't seem to harm the toilet. I think it eventually causes problems in the holding tank but I can't prove it.
I was surprised to see that Jabsco recommends Vaseline. I've always tried to use a silicone based grease that is labeled for use on rubber.

Jabsco certainly do not ship their pumps with Vaseline in them. All the ones I have seen have a synthetic lube that looks and feels exactly like SuperLube.

I suspect they recommend Vaseline because they think that is a common, cheap lubricant that is widely available.

So my Jabsco literature recommends using a product called "Rule brand toilet cleaner and conditioner." I can't find that on the internet. I take it that vinegar will be a safe way to decalcify (or "SaltAway"?) and that a non-plant based lube for the seals and shafts is a good way to go. Silicone grease?

Rule has gotten out of the cleaner business. Raritan CH toilet cleaner is a good product.
Lube the seal and piston rings with any grease that says it won't harm rubber. Most silicone grease is safe to use. Read the label. I think Super Lube is good as well.

Thanks for the info! I wondered if the vinegar thing was okay. Seems like I've used it on plumbing before with good results.

jb. Vinegar works just fine to clear any calcium deposits.
However If you want the nuclear option then Hydrochloric acid is the one to use.
YOU MUST ONLY use it if you are familiar with the safe handling of chemicals and their effect.
YOU MUST ENSURE you have some alkali ie lime to nuetralize it in case of spills and plenty of water for flushing.
YOU MUST WEAR SAFETY CLOTHING AND TAKE EXTREME CARE.
For GRP hulls, using protective clothing and goggles 'wet spray' a 10' section of the hull, let the spray work for 3/4 minutes, scrub the wetted area with a nylon brush and rinse off with copious amounts of water, then repeat for the next section, it will attack any metal/mild steel so avoid through hull fittings, props etc, it will clean discolouration and leave your hull pristine white, wash the hull with normal detergent, dry off, and it's ready for applying a good polish, it will also remove barnacles.
It quickly does a fantastic job providing you use it sensibly and take proper precautions.
