Pacific watermaker problems

The other thread got me thinking about energy recovery devices.
My business is on its third strip down and seal replacement for Clarke pump type pressure boosters this season. The universal cause of these problems (and my experience in past years) is calcium build up inside the pup followed by an extended shut down.
Calcium levels in the Pacific are higher than the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and cause a lot of issues in heat exchangers, watermakers etc.
My recommendation to people doing an extended shut down is to perform an acid clean and flush before adding preservative. It won't take much longer than a simple preserving and could save you some grief on start up.
One pump we are re-installing today had piston and rod seals shredded by the calcium build up.
