There is a direction as with any fan - I don't remember the details though. I recall there is some mention of this in the install instructions. There are pre-drilled holes to help in changing it.

I ended up unscrewing my fan assembly and turning it around 180 degrees to get mine to vent toward outboard, allowing the hot air to chimney up behind the cabinets, away from the unit.
