Yeah, cruising boats are all about systems and it can be intimidating. A few more thoughts:
  1. Tech manual. You should be able to get the owners manual on-line. Jabsco is now Xylem Flow. Nice exploded diagrams and flow diagrams. Should get rid of some mystery.
  2. Flushing. Before working it is simple to clean the head to avoid the yuck factor. Flush plenty of fresh water (1/2 gallon at least before working on it) and some folks like to flush some vinegar (let soak for 1/2 hour perhaps) too, since that will sterilize and most cleaners are bad for heads.
  3. This is what I meant by a strainer:Sail Delmarva: Easier Winterizing
Heads are really easy to live with... after you learn all of the care rules.

Re: No flushing water into the head

Folks, thanks for the inputs. I solved the problem yesterday by replacing the pump. The rebuild kit was close in price and I took the seemingly safe bet and it worked. I replaced in about 15 minutes.

This was my first fix in the boat, a non-existent step for sailing community but a big one for me! ;-)

Thanks for the help!
