Our
refrigerator is about 900 years old. It's a typical Danfoss
compressor with a U shaped evaporator in the
freezer side of the box vented to a fridge side like a lot of you have. It stopped working a couple days ago and was acting really weird. You can read about that part here-

We had to try an R-12 replacement, a DuPont product that's compatible with R-12 (Freon)
oil. It's called MO 49 Isceon. Of course you have to replace any
seals with the new green
seals but the only rubber exposed to the refrigerant on this system is on the schrader valves on the fill/test
ports. I haven't found any of those yet but I don't need them very bad because they have brass caps that seal completely over the valves.
I was concerned that this refrigerant wouldn't really do the job. I've heard horror stories about converting to R-134 and then the fridge runs all the time to try to keep up because it's a l was wrong to be concerned. This is by far the best that this fridge has ever cooled!
If you find yourself in a position of being unable to refill your system with R-12, don't worry, this stuff is great.
