Low Water Pressure

Hello All,

I'm new to posting but have read many previous posts in the past. I have a head hunter water pressure system on board the boat that provides excellent pressure to multiple outlets even during simultaneous usage. However, with no other lines drawing water all of my fresh water deck wash down connections have very poor water pressure. I was debating adding a 12/24v water pump in line with the deck wash down connections but don't know if this will negatively impact the rest of the system or even work at all. Looking for some input.

Several issues come to mind.

1. What do you mean by low pressure? Is this at a low flow (perhaps using a hose nozzle set for low flow) or is it out of an open hose? With a variable nozzle you should find a setting that gives you an adequate stream velocity. If not, perhaps you do need a dedicated washdown pump.

2. If your water pump is well aft, then you will have a considerable length of line from the pump to the deck wash. This will contribute significantly to low pressure.

3. What is the rated delivery (gpm) of the pump? If it is low (a few gpm) it will not likely develop much pressure at the higher flows usually demanded of a deck wash. Your galley and head faucets are possibly designed for lower flowrates and thus have higher output pressures.

4. There is certainly a possibility of a kink or other blockage in the lines leading to the deck wash outlet.

a clog or kink in the supply line is what occurred to me. Or a loose fitting or leak but you dont mention any mystery water showing up anywhere or the bilge pump cycling. It has happened to me. Start checking lengths of hose/pipe from the pump to your deck wash. If there is a clog you will likely notice that it is harder to blow air through that part of the hose.

Which Headhunter pump do you have? If it is a Mach5, you should have plenty of pressure and volume. I'd be looking at undersized lines or a kink in the line.
