On my new to me old boat I have head issues. It appears the pump is shot. No label except "made in chili".

What say you oh collective wisdom of the ages. What type of head is it? Can I just bolt on a new Jabsco pump?

I'm almost certain that is the toilet we have and it has a jabsco pump.

. Well in my defense the last letter was smudged and I am mildly illiterate.

Ordered an new pump, will have it for next weekend.

On to the next portion of the quest to poo. Y valves.

It appears the poo leaves the toilet and travels over a loop and then to this y valve that appears to be broken. There it can be direct discharge ( has a lock) or goes to the holding tank.

The holding tank appear to have no means of discharge but for the deck fitting suck out. I have yet to locate a poo pump.

I attached is a picture I took sticking my hand back into the void with the tank. I have yet to figure out access but to remove the water tank">fresh water tank.

Should I just replace the y and roll with it? Should I replumb straight to the holding tank, put in a whale gulper and then a y?

It could be PAR it is very faded.

Looking at the electrical panel it appears you have a treatment system, not just a holding tank. If that's it in picture 3, I don't recognize it. Maybe Peggie will.

A Raritan Hold N Treat system would be a good replacement.

There are a number of other ways you could go as well. Looks like you're in Florida. If you ever plan to cruise in the Keys you'll need to keep in mind that the Keys are a no discharge zone. In which case the Hold N Treat is great for you.

I hope the new pump fits, if not it is new toilet time and the pump will be my spare.

How exactly is hold n treat different than a normal holding tank? Does it us chemicals? If so, will it have a reservoir? Would the pump be integral to the tank?

This could have been put in the boat in 1984 as that is the date written on my forward fess water tank that would have to come out to get access. The boat being a 1978.

I have yet to lay eyes on a pump. I have found a second y valve under the drawer near the companionway.

I may have a second holding tank in the port lazerette. It is the last space I have yet to clean out and inventory being that it is full to the top with junk. Next weekend I plan on digging into it.

With a Hold N Treat system the poo first goes into a holding tank making it legal for use in no discharge zones. When you are in an area where it is legal to discharge, the poo is pumped into the treatment device, treated and then pumped overboard.
There is a pump mounted on top of the holding tank part of the system that moves the poo from the holding tank to the treatment unit. The treatment unit, either a Raritan Electrasan or Purisan, has a pump inside to move the treated poo overboard.

It looks to me like you might want to treat yourself to a whole new sewage system. The simplest would be a toilet and a holding tank with deck pump out fitting and overboard pump.

This is something that you'll live with for a long time and if you get it right, you'll save yourself a bunch of trouble. To that end, read Peggie's book first.

Here is what I thing I have..

And here is what I am thinking about doing. Re-using my existing tanks and upgrading the hoses.

My big concern is the internals of the Forward tank, does that pump need to be functional to have poo move to the aft tank? Can the pump be removed to allow free flowing of the poo? Is this idea just bad?
