Kero Stoves Perth Australia

Hi all

My Maxi kero stove need some attention. I only learned how to use it on YouTube, but am pretty sure the problem is more than just the operator... It seems one of the two burners on the stove doesn't work and the other aren't great. I heard a rumour that it is also important to use high quality kerosene. So obviously, I'm wondering what's available...

Any help much appreciated!

Thanx Andrew

While high quality kero is important, it is pretty hard to find low quality kero in Oz .

What exactly is the problem?

The burners can be cleaned and if necessary, rebuilt. Occasionally they have to be replaced.

Re: Kero Stoves Perth Australia

The oven worked quit well in the beginning. And one of the burners on the stove was, ok too. Perhaps they still would be if I persisted cleaning (with ammonia) and trying things... It would come good for a while after a clean, but never seemed quite right... When my flimsy bike pump died I borrowed one from a friend and pumped it up pretty hard, as I needed it to last... In hindsight perhaps too hard; if there's such a thing (can't remember the psi but it was still on the gage). It was burning a tall yellow flame and leaving black smoke/soot everywhere... Couldn't get a hint of blue. I was over cleaning the interior of the boat. I was over thinking about it. So I lost the plot more than a month ago and took it out of the boat.

Never felt like I'd tried EVERYTHING. Just seemed logical that, as clearly one burner needs fixing anyway, I could get advice about all the other things from whoever did the job. But I took it to a plumber who sent me to someone, who sent me to someone, who said they had no idea where to start looking. As did Whitworths.

Oh, the burner that "clearly needs fixing" wouldn't even light from day one!

Sounds like the pre heat may not have been adequate

Nah, I'd tip plenty of metho in there and let it burn for a few minutes... If it didn't burn blue straight up I'd repeat instantly. If no luck by then I'd cool n clean, or try something different...
