Keeping cover on water tank

The cast dog that kept the lid on our potable water tank has broken and I can't find a replacement. Other than replacing the whole cover assembly, does anybody have an idea on how to keep the cover on?

Any decent machine shop can fabricate one for you, it won't be identical, but it only needs to work. If you want another cast one ask Port Townsend Foundry Port Townsend Foundry in Washington , if you don't like their price or whatever, maybe they have some ideas to help you out.

Good idea regarding the machine shop. I was thinking that it would have to be cast, but they might think of a way to fabricate one without casting. I'll also keep the PT Foundry in mind.

Looks like an aluminium casting that broke... should be easy to weld back together, and much cheaper than reproducing the bit. Any decent welding shop should be able to help you here.
