joker valve

I have an older electric head that has been back filling after flushing. I attached a picture of what i found. Is this considered the joker valve? Could I install another duckbill style valve to prevent fluid from coming back? Thank you in advance. Its in a Bill Tripp designed Columbia 34.

Looks like it serves the same function as a joker valve. Check the surface that the flap closes against. It needs to be clean and smooth for the flap valve to work.

There may not be room in that tail piece for a duckbill valve to fit.

What kind of toiletis it?

I think its an old Jabsco. This fitting is right off of the macerator. I was thinking of putting a inline check valve of some sort as this flap does not seem to be that great. It was out of shape when I pulled it out. Not the greatest design?

I had a Par that had that same valve and a duckbill valve will not work.

That’s an old one. The tail piece and joker valve from the current 37010 series might fit.
My suggestion, if cleaning the valve contact surface doesn’t fix it, is to buy a pump and base assembly for the 37010 series and reuse your bowl.

You could also up grade to a Raritan Sea Era Conversion.

Thank you folks, I have some parts on order, trying a newer discharge housing with duckbill style valve. Worst case, I go back and get a new base and pump or just go to a manual head.

Tailpiece from newer 37010 is just a bit off. Bolt pattern is not the same. $30 experiment. The duckbill does not fit in the original tailpiece either. I probably will just replace the complete head with a manual head. Not sure if mine is compact or regular. Thank you for the suggestion.

When I replaced my Jabsco manual toilet with a Quiet Flush model, the discharge fitting was at an angle that would kink the hose. What I did, and actual makes the tailpiece stronger, was to cut off the 3 screw tabs, and then a made round disc from SS that I bored the ID to slip over the tailpiece, and drill 3 holes in it to screw to the base. That allowed the tailpiece to be rotated to any position, and the tailpiece was now being clamped in position along its full dia over the tailpieces stepped end, vs just being attached to the toilet base by the 3 screws.
(Basically just picture a large washer that will slide over the tailpiece, and has 3 screw holes) This would allow you to correct any hose misalignment if you have any, and to use a more common joker valve.
