Thanks to everyone for sharing with me the various solutions that have been used to resolve black
water leaks (thanks for the correction, "captmikem"; my original note referred to
grey water which is, of course, incorrect). In my case, I bought a sheet of
gasket material from an auto
parts store, cut it to the shape and size of the seal housing face, drilled 4 holes for the seal housing attachment screws, and drilled one hole in the center that fits snuggly but not too tightly around the
motor shaft. For good measure, I used a double thickness of the
gasket material. MAGIC - the leaking stopped.

seals being installed backwards. Which way is correct? The owners' manual is not explicit.
The best news is that my wife is happy to have the
head working like new again. We have no more mess and the associated
odor. Wedded bliss has been restored.
