Instant electric shower system?

Just wondering if anyone has experience with these. I think it might be a good solution for a quick hot water shower but my inverter is rated to 1600W so it may be too small.

You might need a decent inverter. Its rated at 3000w. I can remember similar systems in beach shacks 40+ years ago. Saw similar being used in Cuba a couple of years back instead of hot water systems with tanks.

I used something similar to that in an apartment where the central hot water was shut off for a month every year.

It worked surprsingly well. I have often thought that something like this would be great on a sailboat, even better than on land since we use smaller quantities of water for our showers on board. As it turns out, 2kW or so is enough to produce a stream of hot water of modest volume.

You will want to find one with smaller power requirement, plus also upgrade your inverter, for it to work off batteries.

These things are used all over the Third World.
They are in the plumbing shops here in Grenada... But I didnt see the prices.

If I had a big inverter I would think its an excellent idea for a shower on a boat.

I have used them in many backpacker hostels in many countries and hotels in Asia.

The design of the one you link to is quite different to what I have seen... Yours looks small and sleek... Could be great for a boat.

yeah I found them in a few hotels in Thailand, worked really well, thats why i thought it would be simple for the boat. But I dont want to upgrade the inverter so I would want one under 1600W or with adjustable power options. Also wondering if they still work when switched to the lower heat setting. Occasionally I just plug in the existing HWS to the inverter but it takes 20 mins to heat, drains at about 100 amps and I dont really like sucking out that much that fast from the battery bank, plus the tank is larger than I need for a quick shower

Given that my one at home , permanently mounted into the shower is 7000W ( at 230VAC) , I cant see how a 1500-1600W unit would be a whole lot of use, either it would be only lukewarm or the flow rates would be a dribble!!

The one he's looking at is 3000W. But I think 2000W would probably be ok for a modest flow and not too big a temperature difference (ie, you're not heating water from 5 degrees C).

Looks like it will need 3000 watts to take a good shower with on demand tankless.

They make propane fired inline water heaters as well. The install would be more complicated but they'd be easier on the battery bank. I've used them on land and they work really well

Don't this devices need water pressure to work?
The most pressurisation on our boat depends how high you can hold a bucket above your head.. That enough??
