Info needed on composting toilet

Looking for recommendations for a compact composting head as I have very limited space in the aft cabin of my trimaran. Overall height is a big consideration as the installation would go under a bunk. Does anyone know of a good model. Does anyone have experience with building one from components?

Re: Info needed on composting toilet

I built one, it was a copy of a C head, came out great. We do have a c head and natures head, problems with each. I'd get a regular portable style camper / boat you can dump. I hate our composters

I built one a couple years ago. It was easy to do.
Here are a couple pictures.

Re: Info needed on composting toilet

Thanks for the replies. Upon due consideration, and a fair amount of thread reading, I think I'll pass on installing a "composting" (ie desicating) toilet. I have a portapotti that suffices in harbor, and it requires little space or maintenance.

Check out the C-Head website, he has dimensions for all his heads posted. Composter aren't for everyone but it's the only type head I would have on our boat.

Re: Info needed on composting toilet

True composting is one thing.

Toilets separating poo from urine, no chemicals involved, can dispose of the waste just like used nappies, are another. Plenty of DIY howtos out there, no need to spend big bucks.

Soon as you get chemicals involved then much more limited where you can (should) dump them.

And of course in North America regulations come into play, not necessarily common sense.
