How to make fresh water and diesel tank?

Hi all,
I do have a Rainbow 42 sailboat which I am currently rebuilding into a cruiser sailboat, while still trying to keep the overall weight down. This boat is a 42 feet (villanda.no) racing boat and it came without diesel and water tank">fresh water tank. I am making two 120cm beds under the cockpit and I would like to fit a diesel tank on port side and a fresh water tank on stearbord side under these beds.

So to my question, what material should I use?
I have been considering:
  1. some kind of plastic
  2. AIS 316 stinless steel
  3. ALuminimum 6060
  4. Fiberglass

The tank will be 200cm long, 120cm wide and approx 10cm tall(Follow hullshape more or less) giving me 240L volume. Should i Split it into 3 sections?

Should I have a pump from one section to another?(Fully seperated tanks or just bulkhead in them with a small hole to let water/diesel flow from one section to another..)

How to make the lid of the tanks?(The hole top, or just a small round lid?)

Any ideas/ feedback on this topic would be great.

I think I will go down the fiberglass path, the question now is just how to divide the tanks, I was thinking splitting it into 3 tanks with 80L in each. I then need a pump in each to transfer it from one to another and some solenoid valves when filling them.

You can, of course, use plywood and food grade epoxy (for water) and regular epoxy for diesel.

Get them poly welded from black poly, 3/8" or 1/2".

These measurements will not work for a diesel tank. A little rolling and you will pick up air in the fuel line if the tank is less than half full. You could combine this with a day tank, though.

On a water tank this is not so important.
