Hose Clamps - Latest and greatest? Thoughts and theories?

I can't imagine much has changed in hose clamp technology, but I've checked the two older threads which haven't had action in a few years and wonder what people are thinking these days.

I'd like to update my clamp spares collection, which is currently questionable at best. What's the current consensus on brands / styles / implementation techniques?

There's a neat "submerged hose clamp test" in the second thread, showing ABA make some pretty resilient clamps.

There is also considerable discussion in these threads and around the web regarding proper tightening for hose clamps. I've found most of the ones on my boat are massively over tightened, to the point I've had to cut the hose after removing the clamps in order to free it from the barbed fitting it was pushed onto. Would a torque screwdriver benefit installation? Or is that just nerdy overkill? (come on we all love toys ... I mean tools)

What about the nylon ratcheting reusable kind? They specifically list a bunch of engine related uses, but if they work on an engine, surely they'd work on a raw water intake for an air-conditioner? They come in a bunch of different sizes, and variety packs.

Nothing much as changed. ABA is still gold standard.

Torque to tighten really depends on the pressure you are trying to contain. Minimum torque ensures good engagement with the hose barbs, so the hose can not be pulled off. But if you are dealing with higher pressures in the tube, you'll need to tighten down considerably from the minimum.

"Too Much" is when the hose starts to be cut by the clamp. One of the advantages of the ABA clamps is the rolled edges that help prevent that from happening.

If you have trouble getting hoses off fittings, get a hose removal tool.

Nylon hose clamps have no place on hoses connected to the ocean--especially in an engine room. High temperatures can weaken them. These are for non-critical applications only. In other words, whatever you don't care if it leaks.
