Holding Tank Vent

Because holding tank systems only add cost to the builder, they don't increase the boat's value one bit...and double vents + a fan would only add MORE cost. Odor isn't a safety issue or a legal issue...which makes it your problem, not the builder's.

However, it shouldn't take two vents and fan to solve the odor problem on your boat...it's sailboats that are challenging because people insist on sailing laying 'em on the sides to sail 'em! Shoot me an email and I'll be glad to help you figure out what you really need to do to fix it.

What do you think of this idea for promoting air circulation? Add a small air pump that connects to the waste line anti-siphon loop (to the vent hole outside the loop) and run the pump from time to time, or maybe even continuously. That would force a small amount of air into the tank through the waste line which would then exit through the tank vent. Presumably, the anti siphon valve would stay closed when flushing, assuming the air pressure from the pump weren't too strong.

It wouldn't work...not enough air. However, a second vent line into which a small exhaust fan were installed to pull air through the tank would work provided the fan were to run 24/7365 whether anyone is aboard or not. . However, depending upon the tank location, it could be as simple as just shortening and straightening out the vent line.
