Holding tank dip tube install

Installed the Dometic diptube this spring according to the instructions. Not too thrilled about how much content is left at a pump out, so going to redo it. Current setup has the inverted bell pickup. Making the basic style with the foot at a 45* with the bottom at angle where the tip is deeper than the heel side of the foot. . Im thinking settng the tip to where it just touches the bottom of the tank but not sure how much clearance I need at the higher end. Is 1/2 enough of a gap for the contents to pass through?
Considering this design vs just lowering the existing bell style as it will allow me to point the pickup opening more to the lowest part of the tank since the tank is slightly unlevel.
Thanks

Re: Holding tank dip tube install

Sounds like the pickup tube on the Dometic wasn't quite long enough for the tank depth, 'cuz the tip of the "inverted bell" should just about touch the bottom of the tank.

If you replace it with a DIY, cut the pickup tube at about a 25 degree angle. Any higher leaves too much in the tank, any flatter can trap undissolved solids and TP, blocking pumpout till they dissolve...which should only happen if the tank is pumped or dumped within an hour or less of the last flush, but can still be aggravating.
