Hinges for Bemis toilet seats

Both Jabsco toilets have broken hinges (please, no weight comments). I have not been able to find just new hinges (and feel their design is poor) and would appreciate any leads for better hinges that will fit.

To add to the frustration, Jabsco has moved their manufacture and ALL OF THEIR INVENTORY to Mexico, so it take 6 weeks to get a spare part. I'd like to give the customer hating accountant who recommended this bad idea.

Just google Bemis TC50TT in color 000 (white). You'll find an entire seat runs about $12.00. Jabsco DID NOT MAKE THIS SEAT they just mark it up 500%....

YES!!!!

Same thing with my Groco toilet. Checked Groco parts and cheapest deal was $60. Looked at the old toilet and it was made by Bemis. Ordered exact replacement online for $12 with free shipping. Got the new seats (did two heads) and held them next to the old Groco. They are absolutely identical.

A hint. One way to keep the new hinges from breaking (thanks to Nigel Calder for this hint), screw a couple of wood blocks on the underside of the seat so when the seat is down the wood blocks just fit down inside the bowl. Then when sitting on the seat underway the seat doesn't slide around putting a side load on the hinges which is what breaks them.

Maine Sail: Super thank you, already ordered the new seats at $12.
Skipmac: I'll add the wooden blocks as soon as they arrive.

I also just ordered these for a Bemis seat. Hinges on both sides cracked and broke.

THIS is a great tip. Will be sure to do this when I install the new hinges. Thanks!

Ran into the same thing...Discovered identical hinges at WalMart. Spent 5 bucks.
