Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
When we were touring our prospective purchase in 2006, I was asking a lot of the usual technical questions, and my wife saw a Lavac in the head. She emerged and said "if this is the one you can flush jeans down, we'll take it".
The Lavac's worked since.

Just thought it would be good to see what everyone has and if they are satisfied or not.

I had to vote OTHER:
There was no way to answer. We have an Air Head, a vacuflush direct out and a vacuflush with Wye valve out or holding tank. Manual Holding tank pump over the side. (three heads - better than one)
I prefer the Air Head but it depends on the cruising area. In the North Channel (Canada/Great Lakes) it is ZDZ and pump-outs are far between. The Air Head is the clear winner in this case. I pack a shovel and bury the stuff about every one-two weeks. Leaf compost is a fine starter on the refill. Guests often prefer the Vacuflush which means holding tank. This is not too bad as pump-out here is 5 bucks. The direct out Vacuflush is the no-fuss method outside the discharge boundary.

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
Thanks for contributing, didn't occur to me that there would be multiple systems aboard one boat. But we only have one head and I'm rarely on vessels with two, so it just wasn't on my radar . Still, your post gives great feedback for people researching head systems, thanks.

We have two. I just answered for the one we use the most, which is the electric one forward. We also have a manual one aft, which is really for guest and emergencies.
I've thought about converting it to electric, too, but it just doesn't get used enough to make it worth the money and trouble.

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
We will go electric if this composting thing doesn't work out...my hubby is upside down in the head as we speak installing the main bulk of the head. I then will start the plumbing of the pee diverter to a portable tank. We will soon be in bisiness :-)

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
I have no head at the moment. Took it out to install a composting head later.
Good thing, because I found a 2" x 3" hole in the holding tank.

Lavac 27 years and still working like a champ. 20 of those as full time live aboard cruisers. Worth the extra $

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
I have a perfectly functioning head (Jabsco manual) and can't wait for it to break down so I can change it to a "composting" one. I'm probably messing up your poll results because I voted not satisfied though the head works fine. I can't help not to like it since the head is an extension of the rest: the hoses that need to be replaced -- I've bought some new ones but can't seem to muster the gumption needed to start such a project -- and the extremely small holding tank. Whereas other things have happily broken down that I didn't expect them to, I suspect the head is going to function merrily along for quite a while.

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?
yes, she is a beut
my ipad died, im on a computer! yes, a blasted big heavy contraption with a funky keyboard. so can't post pics of finished product yet, but suffice to say, she is a beut! composting(desiccating) head is the way to go for Rain Dog. Clean, simple, smells like cedar.
anyways, so far so good
Thanks for voting
