We put in the Vacuflush right after we bought the boat in 2000. The boat was 11 years old then. We have had zero problems with it since. Very little water use, fresh water so no smell, easy for guests to operate with out clogging it up. We are careful to replace the seals as recommend. Satisfied in every way. Only problem would be if we lost power.

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?

here in holland you cant discharge over the side, manditory holding tank or porta pottie. We cut the head out when we bought the boat and put in a 15ltr porta potty, but only use it for peeing in, nr 2's go into a garbage bag with absorbant kitchen paper towel in the bottom, when job is done, pull the bag out of the toilet, roll it up, ( you get that warm squishy feeling.. ) tie it off and put into the garbage bin with the rest of the rubbish.
100ltr water lasts 3 days, 15ltr potty is half full in 3 days, garbage bin is ready to be emptied in 3 days, fridge is getting low, so after 3 days on anchor, we head to the nearest marina or public toilet to empty the porta potty, throw out the rubbish, fill the water tank, buy supplies and head back out again.
Apart from that always had a manual jabsco or something, always stank, always leaked.

We put in a Nature's Head four years ago and love it. No more odor, room for two sail bags under the v-berth where the holding tank used to be.
With a two week vacation and weekend use it lasts all season and I empty it in the spring. At that point it's just dirt. I'll never go back to a holding tank system.

Re: Head Poll -What Do You Have, satisfied?

You saved me Ocean Girl... I was on the political NSA rant thread and I saw the poll in your sig line... whew Escape!

It would be nice to know $$$ for composing toilets, I can guess about bucket and chuck it. Even mid-installation where I'm using a < $5 bucket, $1 of compost, and toilet seat. I'm happier than with my manual pump Raritan toilet, 50'+ of hoses, and 25 gal holding tank.

It wasn't the toilet. It was the hoses and holding tank. I suspect the PO pumped overboard and installed the holding system to look legal or sell the boat. To correct the problem would have meant replacing and relocating everything except the toilet.

I like composing and I vote(d).

Dont blame you, I just had my brother and his misses over from aus for 10 days on the boat and was a bit worried that they couldnt handle it and would want to get off the boat after the first night,,, we ended up having pooproll tieing contests to see who could get the tightest roll. Just goes to show, us aussie's are as mad as they say.

Cheapie Jabscos. When they need cleaning, just replace.

Just bought a Nature's Head. Haven't even tried it yet. Just finished designing and 3D printing a vent fixture for it, should be up and running shortly.

Have two Baby Blakes for sale. Cheap.

Lavac,

Do I count it as a vacuum head, or a manual head?

Love it, wouldn't change it for anything. Less moving parts, less water used, works wonderful!

We like our manual head (PSC 34). Very careful about what goes down it. Pump it out about once per week. No problems - touch wood,

Yes. Last three boats all had composting heads and all were live aboard. I personally would go with nothing else.

Hi Newt. The liquids go over the side, and the solids get buried in our various wilderness locations. So far no problem at all disposing of our outflows. Might become more interesting as we travel through urban areas of the Great Lakes next year.
