Hand Watermaker / Waterlog ?

as anyone seen or used the waterlog?

Watermakers.Yacht watermakers. No electricity needed.

im looking into systems for the boat and thinking this will solve the water system, seems right cheaper than most water makers no membranes and no electicity? is the old saying if it sounds too goog to be true it usually is or has developments in science actually paid off?

Only makes water underway. While it doesn't use electricity it takes energy from your motive source, sail or power. This is not free it will cost you time and/or fuel. Look how fast they are towing this thing in their video.

Ease of installation seems great, but it is not set up to pump directly into your tanks. For ease of operation, flipping a switch seems a lot easier than deploying this, collecting water in a container to manually put into tank, and then retrieve and stow.

No reason this shouldn't work, but where ever you get the energy to run your water make, it is not free. Now electric with solar panels effective enough to pay back energy and cost of ownership, maybe.

I like the idea, still a bit expensive though. For small boats that may not even have water tanks and all water is stored in jugs anyway, I think this would be great.

Still, very expensive. Top of the line model is almost more than I paid for my entire boat. For now I'll just depend upon refilling on shore, and maybe the occasional bit of rain.

Most of the water we made while cruising was made while sitting around somewhere in the islands for weeks at a time. The other concern is the possibility of loss. What if you catch it on floating debris, etc? It could be ripped off the boat. If you added a spare unit to the inventory you are getting into the price of a good small dc systems that has more output.

Our 6gph SK is a 12 volt dc and runs off our solar panels easily. We have also used the water maker as an electricity dump when the batteries are fully charged from sun or wind. We love to use our washing machine to clean our clothes in fresh water and take decent showers.

If I were transiting the atlantic or Pacific I would probably added one just for the long sail, but not for cruising the Caribe.

The trailing propeller “Waterlog” desalinator may be somewhat useful; but only at net speeds* above 4 knots, in unobstructed, deeper & calmer water.

I wouldn’t even consider such a contraption, except perhaps for an offshore passagemaker.

*The Waterlog may reduce potential boatspeed by as much as 1/3 to ½ knot when deployed.

Hard to believe it doesn't use a membrane. . . . If that's true, what does it use, and are you dependent upon the manufacturer for replacements of the non-membrane at a price set by them?

this was my first thought then yes

my thouhts drifted to what most all of you are saying slower knots means sit is costing, and then the membrane. i would get it for a long passage, but it still needs dc for sitting still and cost as much as some 6-12 gph dc units that could be run off solar.

I just searched the web for people who have owned and used the Waterlog on their boat. No posting said it worked.
