My husband and I live aboard our 53 foot Gulfstar motor sailor. I have very long hair and our shower drain becoming clogged has been a major issue over the years. We've tried of variety of filters, strainers etc., but none have really done the job. I have found a relatively cheap product that works miraculously. It is called the "drain wig," and can be ordered online via Amazon.com. It is basically a chain like you would see on a fan pull or a light, with rubber pieces about every 4 inches or so sticking out perpendicular to the chain. We had to cut these rubber pieces down slightly to fit our smaller boat drain. There is a plastic flower on the top that covers the drain, while still letting water drain out and holds the chain. Hair gets caught on these rubber pieces and doesn't travel any further down the drain and after about two months you pull the whole chain out, hair and all, throw it away and put a new one in. Ever since we started using these, we have not had one clog that required dismantling of the shower pump.

Re: Hair clog fix!!!

I think you may have just saved a few marriages. Now husbands don't have to get upset about having to fix the plumbing all the time
