GROCO HF HEAD

I am a newbie to marine heads. I have a GROCO HF manual head with a 10 gal holding tank. Is this model generally reliable? The pump is not functioning properly. Is a pump rebuild kit going to fix the issue or should I get the whole pump assembly? Or, should I just replace the head?

Re: GROCO HF HEAD

The Groco HF is a pretty good toilet. Of the low end manual toilets I think it is the only one with a bronze base. Groco parts can be pricey but I think this one is worth fixing.
Before you start fixing the toilet be sure the problem isn’t a blocked hose, full tank or blocked tank vent. Is the dry bowl / wet bowl lever set correctly?

I'll second all the above. I have two Groco HF heads on my boat and they are well made and certainly rebuildable and yes the base is bronze. If I recall, the Groco is one of the two or three heads that Peg Hall recommends as worthwhile for keeping and rebuilding.

Re: GROCO HF HEAD

I had a Groco HF on my previous boat and have one on the current one. They are decent. I've rebuilt them and it's not a terrible job. However the master kit is about 50% or more of the cost for an entire replacement pump. And the pump is priced at more than 50% of the cost of an entire new HF head. Crazy.

Maybe...maybe not. It's entirely possible the problem isn't even in the toilet, but somewhere downstream of it. So what's it doing or not doing that you think it should be doing?

Re: GROCO HF HEAD

Thanks for the replies. I will try to troubleshoot further when I go down to finish my hurricane prep.
