Groco HF

Why do manufacturers charge more to pre-assemble stuff if it is going to be done wrong and ended costing more time than assembling completely up front? GRRR. I put in the new head this weekend only to find that the seals on the pump all leaked. Had to take the pump off and rebuild it to stop the leaks. Seemed like uneven pressure on the gaskets cause the leaking.

FWIW. If installing a new Groco HF, I'd visually check all the seals prior to installation!

I don't know why manufactures even make these barely adequate plastic heads from hell. This is the best head made in my opinion:

Wilcox Crittenden Wilcox Skipper Bronze Head - 37004 - BoatersWorld.com

Yes it is $900 but isn't that better than having to tear one apart every so often?

I have one on board and it has never clogged. You can rebuild it in half a day and the rebuild lasts for at least 5 years in my experience. I had to replace the last one after 32 years of service....it was the boats original head!
